OpenStack Error while installing nova

Hey all,

Recently I’ve came across an issue with a weird error while trying to install the NOVA project as a part of an OpenStack install.

While following the procedure on the openstack website the nova database update failed with the following basic error: “Command failed, please check log for more info

while looking at the ‘/var/log/nova/nova-manage.log‘ I saw the following error:

ERROR nova OperationalError: (_mysql_exceptions.OperationalError) (1045, “Access denied for user ‘nova’@’localhost’ (using password: YES)”)

Even after I changed the values in the nova.conf file I still saw the same error which lead me to believe there is another file with the same setting but there was no mention of it in the openstack how-to

after some googling I found the following post which described a similar issue and the solution that solved my problem.

Apparently during base nova install another file is created in ‘/usr/share/nova/nova-dist.conf ‘ and this file contains another SQL string connection which after I had changed to the correct values it was successfully able initialize the nova database.
